Danny and Matt’s Bar Mitzvah

Last year, I photographed my first Bar Mitzvah. It was also my 2nd photographer Georgi’s first Bar Mitzvah. I will be honest. Even after 250 weddings I was very nervous for this. What are the rules? Am I going to be yelled at if I don’t do something right? Will I take the photos that I’m supposed to take? What if I miss something? What if I look stupid and someone says to the parents, “Where did you get this photographer?” I was assured by the families that it will be easy and very very fun.

I didn’t have a thing to worry about. It was so laid back. The families were awesome. The boys were easy to photograph. And the location was amazing. It was all held at Beat Street which you can see by the photos is not like any wedding location I’ve ever photographed. Colors everywhere. It was grungy, hazy, flashy and filled with textures. Georgi and I had a blast.

At a wedding the guests need to get a few drinks in them before the dancing really gets going. Not these kids. They are maniacs. These kids know every word to every song and sing till they can’t sing any more. It was a great party and I can’t wait to do another one at Beat Street.
